The ride begins high above the clouds, at the pass of La Cumbre, at around 4,700 meters above sea level. From here you’ll begin a breathtaking descent: first along smooth paved roads, letting your legs warm up and your spirits rise. Then the real adventure unfolds – you enter the narrow, unpaved section of Death Road, carved into steep Andean slopes, dropping thousands of meters down into the lush Yungas rainforest.
As you descend further, the scenery keeps changing dramatically — from chilly mountain air to humid jungle warmth; from vistas of snow-covered peaks to the green canopy of tropical forest. Hairpin turns, cliff-edges without guardrails (in the original road’s days), and a feeling of pure gravity riding at every bend make this one of the most thrilling mountain biking experiences in the world.

Overview
Starting high above the Andean skyline, your adventure begins around 4,700 metres where crisp alpine air meets panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and grazing llamas. From this vantage you’ll cradle your mountain-bike and strap on your protective gear.
Then the real descent unfolds — you’ll ride down the dramatic old road as it drops thousands of metres in elevation, carving through misty cloud-forest and jungle terrain, where the narrow single-lane gravel path hugs cliffs and twists relentlessly.
As adrenaline surges with each turn, you’ll journey through Aymara villages, cascading waterfalls, bitumen giving way to dirt, and temperature zones shifting from icy to tropically humid.
It’s not merely a ride — it’s a passage through Bolivia’s natural transitions and historic legacy (this route once claimed many lives which earned it the “Death Road” nickname).
At the end of the route you arrive lower in the Yungas jungle, hot, dust-covered, but exhilarated. Stops for refreshments, photo moments, and a hearty lunch (often at a jungle sanctuary) round off the experience. Guides accompany you throughout, with well-maintained gear, full safety briefings and support.
A full-day outing that’s part thrill-ride, part nature immersion, totally unforgettable.
